Small Lobby Signs for Small Lobbies

My Lobby Is Small, Do I Need A Lobby Sign?

Small Lobby Signs for small lobbies? You, bet!

Yes, you do need a lobby sign, even if your business’s lobby is small. A lobby sign is a major portion of the client’s first impression of your business. You only have one chance to make a first impression! A small lobby is a terrible excuse to skip having a lobby sign. Your customers need to know that they’ve come to the right place.

Your customers also want to know that you’re business is dependable and real. When they leave your business today, will you still be there tomorrow? Lobby Signs help answer this question.  Also, don’t forget to display awards to reveal your accomplishments!

There are certain things you should consider when choosing a lobby sign for a small lobby. When choosing a lobby sign for a small lobby, you should answer these questions first:

  • What is the size of the room?
  • Which wall should hold the sign?
  • Exactly how much space is available to hold the sign?
  • What is that wall made of?
  • What will the wall hold?
  • When is the first time the client can/will see the wall?
  • What MUST appear on the Lobby Sign?
  • What sort of Lobby Sign do you like?

We can certainly help you with answers to these questions, just reach out to us. Now, Let’s talk about why these questions about your lobby and lobby signage matter:

What is the size of the room?

You should measure your lobby from floor to ceiling and wall to wall on ALL walls. This will help you consider exactly what size makes sense for your lobby.

lobby sign diagram for a small lobbyAs you can see from this graphic, to the left, there is a hallway to the right of the receptionist. The maximum lobby sign width will end at that hallway. As for height, if the following are true:

  • 1. Ceiling to floor measurement is 11 feet.
  • 2. Reception desk is 4 feet high.
  • 3. An average person’s standing height is 5-6 feet

We may most likely assume that the sign could be as tall as approximately 5 feet high and wide as 4.5 feet. The next graphic below shows a visual example:

Small Lobby Sign
Your small lobby sign is certainly not required to be as tall or large as the sign area in the graphic to the right.

In fact, in a small lobby, a sign this large could be overpowering. Still. It is a good idea to be aware of your maximum and minimum sign area.

Knowing how much space you can work with when designing your sign is always a very good idea.

Which wall should hold the sign?

Typically, with Lobby Signs in small spaces, or large spaces, the best place for the sign is the first place the client sees when they arrive at the entrance to the lobby of your business.

Exactly how much space is available to hold the sign?

Ah ha! This is why we made careful measurements and considered the size of the room. Now, it’s time to go a step further though. A 5 foot tall and 4 foot wide sign may fit a wall, but is that the best choice for your business? Not necessarily. In some cases, this lobby sign size could be too large for the room. Is it a sheet rock wall?  Is it a glass wall? Do you know that the wall offers very little support?

What will the wall hold?

This goes back to the previous question. How is the wall made? When choosing a sign, be realistic. If the wall is unlikely to hold a 50 pound, thick and artsy metal sign, please don’t try it.

What MUST appear on the Lobby Sign?

Examples:

    1. John Smith, M.D
    2. Gastroenterology Clinic
    3. John Smith, M.D
      Gastroenterology
    4. John Smith, M.D & Associates
