Window Graphics and Privacy

window graphics for privacy

Using window graphics for privacy? We know, it sounds odd. As a Sign Shop, we don’t usually look for ways to conceal much of anything. Our job is usually to grab attention. The point of a sign is to give information, right?

That’s right. Usually, but let’s talk about window graphics and privacy.

A business that might use window graphics for privacy: an attorney’s office.  Not every attorney works from a huge building with a marble lobby. Saul Goodman may not be the best example, but he’ll do for the purposes of this particular post.

Window lettering
Breaking Bad TV Show Character, Saul Goodman’s office with window lettering.

Saul “Better Call Saul” Goodman is a character from the Breaking Bad TV Show. His office was located in a strip mall on the TV show. For the show, window lettering was used on Saul’s storefront, and the office blinds were always closed tight.

Once Saul’s clients entered his establishment, he gave them privacy while staying within his budget. His privacy method worked just fine, but he also could have tried window graphics that covered the whole window. Just sayin’!
Imagine going to the new yoga studio down the street for your very first yoga class, EVER. When you arrive, you see that this class is so full that participants spill into a waiting area right outside of the main private studio.  You’re looking directly at the hind quarters of 3 late arrivals who are in the Downward-facing Dog position. And then it hits you, “I’M LATE TOO!” You’re about to become the 4th contorted individual in the hallway.

Window graphics can offer privacyFor some people, doing yoga in front of the whole world is totally acceptable, for others, it’s uncomfortable. Some folks just don’t like stretching in a fishbowl. Wouldn’t it be nice if the yoga studio had a window graphic that would offer a little privacy, at least. Maybe the people driving by could see that there are people inside doing yoga, but do they really have to have such clear a view?

Other businesses that might use window graphics for privacy:window graphics for privacy

doctor’s office, dentist offices, restaurant, day care, spa, dance studio and any virtually business that wants to offer a bit, or a lot, of privacy to their customers.

With a full window graphic, you can show off your business without making the current client feel the fishbowl effect.

Gender Neutral Restroom Laws

gender neutral restroom sign laws

Discussions regarding Gender Neutral Restroom Laws can sometimes raise intense debates. Whether your personal views are “for” or “against” when it comes to gender neutral restrooms, the fact is: In the state of California, there is an active law on the books requiring businesses to post single occupant gender neutral restroom signage.

California is not the first state to enact gender neutral bathroom laws, and they won’t be the last. These laws may come to your area, as well.

Granted, February 23, 2017 President Donald Trump reversed the federal guidelines on gender neutral restrooms in public schools set during the Obama administration. However this reversal means that states and municipalities will be choosing if and when they will change their rules for restroom signage. Many states and municipalities, will move forward with the changes toward single occupancy gender neutral restrooms and signage.

Simply do a google search of your favorite university and gender neutral restrooms to see what we mean. Princeton, SUNY, Vassar, Yale and Brown have adopted their own approaches for inclusive gender neutral restrooms on their campuses.

Last month, our sister site (ADASignsWholesale.com) had a post about California’s gender neutral bathroom laws.  California is not the only state that has a gender neutral sign law. The laws are also active in the following locations:

Small Lobby Signs for Small Lobbies

A Small Lobby Sign

My Lobby Is Small, Do I Need A Lobby Sign?

Small Lobby Signs for small lobbies? You, bet!

Yes, you do need a lobby sign, even if your business’s lobby is small. A lobby sign is a major portion of the client’s first impression of your business. You only have one chance to make a first impression! A small lobby is a terrible excuse to skip having a lobby sign. Your customers need to know that they’ve come to the right place.

Your customers also want to know that you’re business is dependable and real. When they leave your business today, will you still be there tomorrow? Lobby Signs help answer this question.  Also, don’t forget to display awards to reveal your accomplishments!

There are certain things you should consider when choosing a lobby sign for a small lobby. When choosing a lobby sign for a small lobby, you should answer these questions first:

  • What is the size of the room?
  • Which wall should hold the sign?
  • Exactly how much space is available to hold the sign?
  • What is that wall made of?
  • What will the wall hold?
  • When is the first time the client can/will see the wall?
  • What MUST appear on the Lobby Sign?
  • What sort of Lobby Sign do you like?

We can certainly help you with answers to these questions, just reach out to us. Now, Let’s talk about why these questions about your lobby and lobby signage matter:

What is the size of the room?

You should measure your lobby from floor to ceiling and wall to wall on ALL walls. This will help you consider exactly what size makes sense for your lobby.

lobby sign diagram for a small lobbyAs you can see from this graphic, to the left, there is a hallway to the right of the receptionist. The maximum lobby sign width will end at that hallway. As for height, if the following are true:

  • 1. Ceiling to floor measurement is 11 feet.
  • 2. Reception desk is 4 feet high.
  • 3. An average person’s standing height is 5-6 feet

We may most likely assume that the sign could be as tall as approximately 5 feet high and wide as 4.5 feet. The next graphic below shows a visual example:

Small Lobby Sign
Your small lobby sign is certainly not required to be as tall or large as the sign area in the graphic to the right.

In fact, in a small lobby, a sign this large could be overpowering. Still. It is a good idea to be aware of your maximum and minimum sign area.

Knowing how much space you can work with when designing your sign is always a very good idea.

Which wall should hold the sign?

Typically, with Lobby Signs in small spaces, or large spaces, the best place for the sign is the first place the client sees when they arrive at the entrance to the lobby of your business.

Exactly how much space is available to hold the sign?

Ah ha! This is why we made careful measurements and considered the size of the room. Now, it’s time to go a step further though. A 5 foot tall and 4 foot wide sign may fit a wall, but is that the best choice for your business? Not necessarily. In some cases, this lobby sign size could be too large for the room. Contact us if you’d like help choosing a size.

Small lobby signs for small lobbiesWhat is that wall made of?

Is it a sheet rock wall?  Is it a glass wall? Do you know that the wall offers very little support?

What will the wall hold?

This goes back to the previous question. How is the wall made? When choosing a sign, be realistic. If the wall is unlikely to hold a 50 pound, thick and artsy metal sign, please don’t try it.

What MUST appear on the Lobby Sign?

Examples:

    1. John Smith, M.D
    2. Gastroenterology Clinic
    3. John Smith, M.D
      Gastroenterology
    4. John Smith, M.D & Associates
    5. John Smith, M.D & Associates,

What sort of Lobby Sign do you like?

Are there signs that you’ve seen before that you liked? If so, show them to us. Perhaps the same style can be scaled down to accommodate your space.

Ways to Use Window Lettering and Graphics

Window graphics and lettering can often be a type of signage that you see so frequently that you often don’t even realize that you are looking at it when it’s right in front of your face. You see the sign, you read the information, you understand the message, but the thought, “I’m looking at a sign” doesn’t always go through your head.

Window Lettering and Graphics
This company chose a window graphic and lettering that would allow passers by to see inside the window.

In many cases, when window lettering and graphics are used, visitors can still see inside the window.  For instance, if you use window lettering on a glass door to share your business hours, two things are happening:

  1. You’re letting the client know when they can find you at your business.
  2. You’re still using your window to show off your business!

The view of the interior of your business is not obstructed, unless you choose for it to be. When you choose a sheer decal material, or because of the negative space surrounding the lettering and/or graphic, the client can still see inside the business window.

Large opaque window graphics covering windows
This client wanted to let customers know exactly where they would be located, but they opted not to show off the interior of the store just yet.

What if you don’t want the client to see inside the window? You can use window graphics for this, too. If you’re doing a remodel and don’t want people to see the work going on inside the building, simply choose an opaque material to use with your message. Just be sure the entire graphic is large enough to cover the entire window.

When you choose large opaque graphics, you’re usually doing so to have some privacy in a specific area, but sometimes there are other reasons.

window graphics and lettering
The right window graphics can even reduce the glare of sunlight.

Have you ever visited a business in a warm sunny location that just happened to have the sun shining directly into a large window for several hours each day?

This may not sound like a very big problem, but there are certain disadvantages to having sun shining straight into your store window, day in and day out. One major disadvantage of direct sunlight through a window all day? The power bill.

If it’s 98 degrees outside, and your showroom is being cooked through glass for 5 hours every day, how hard does your cooling system have to work to keep your employees and customers comfortable? The answer: It has to work pretty doggone hard.

In an upcoming post we will also be taking a closer look at perforated vinyl window graphics. Perforated vinyl window graphics allow a window to be completely covered with your message. People outside the building can’t see inside the building, but people on the inside CAN see outside. This is particularly helpful if privacy is required.

Vehicle Graphics by Signs PDQ

Signs PDQ Vehicle Graphics and Lettering

Considering Vehicle Graphics and Lettering?

Since Signs PDQ offers vehicle lettering and vehicle graphics, we get a lot of great questions about these products and services. Today we’re sharing one of our favorite questions.

Question: I have a compact car. Will you guys please add my business name, logo, phone number, web address, email and a list of my most popular services on the driver’s side door?

Answer: We can do this for you, but we strongly advise against putting this much information on the driver’s side door of your vehicle.

Explanation:

When it comes to vehicle graphics, less is more. Unless a person is standing beside your car, he or she  will probably not be able to read a full paragraph of text on the door of your compact car.

The back of the vehicle is the best place to have your vehicle graphics and lettering. It makes plenty of sense if you think about it. When you imagine driving down the road in your car and you picture the road from your view, what do you see? The backs of other cars, of course!

traffic_jam_i-95_north_rush_hour
The BACK of your vehicle is seen by everyone behind you!

Instead of having too much information on your vehicle, depending on your business name, logo and function, we might suggest that you add vehicle graphics and lettering showing your Business Name, Logo and Phone Number OR website address only. We recommend keeping your vehicle lettering simple. You’re buying vehicle graphics and/or lettering to advertise your business. If no one can read the information on your car door due to the fact that they are looking at a wall of tiny text and graphics- you’re not going to achieve your goal to increase awareness of your brand.

When you buy vehicle graphics and lettering from Signs PDQ, we want to meet and exceed your signage needs. If you’re adding a message to your vehicle, you want it to be attractive, easy to read and made with high quality and durable materials. You want your vehicle lettering to get attention and bring you more business, we want to help you make that happen!

Vehicle Graphics and Impressions?

Every business that advertises online knows that an impression (in the context of online advertising) is when an ad is fetched from its source, and is countable. The number of impressions your ad gets in online advertising campaign affects how quickly you spend your advertising budget online. Right?

What if you could pay ONE PRICE, ONE TIME for your ad, yet get thousands of impressions per day, for 3-5 years? Vehicle Graphics and Vehicle Lettering allow you to do exactly that.

Do you need another way to get your business noticed? Would you like thousands of people to see your business information every single day? Do you want your business to be seen as notable and trustworthy? Do you want people to know see “social proof” that your company is serving customers?

Check out these facts about using vehicle graphics and vehicle lettering to advertise your business:

#1 Leasing your company fleet vehicles? No problem.

Vehicle lettering and graphics can be removed without damaging the vehicle.

Vehicle Graphics by Signs PDQ#2 Any type of vehicle can have graphics or lettering applied.

Signs PDQ can apply graphics or lettering to Cars, Trucks, Vans, Boats (?), ATVs, Buses, and RVs!

#3 Vehicle Graphics give you some of the best Return on Investment (ROI) figures possible.

Vehicle Graphics and Lettering vary in price. Let’s just use a price tag of $500.00, for the sake of having a number to start. However,
please understand that your vehicle advertisement could cost more, or less.

Using a price of $500.00 to add graphics or lettering to a business vehicle, how much are you really paying over 3 years (A wrap often lasts longer though!) per impression?

A few years ago preliminary testing using the TAB (Traffic Audit Bureau) measurement system indicated that individual vehicle advertising generates between 30,000 – 70,000 daily vehicular impressions. Obviously, the number of impressions your vehicle ad gets will depend on the graphics and lettering appeal, the amount of time your vehicle is on the road, the population of the area where you drive.

For the sake of this exercise, let’s go with the $500.00 dollar Vehicle Graphics or Lettering and let’s use the low end of the numbers from the TAB study.

Your graphics and lettering will more than pay for itself very quickly. When 30,000 people have the
opportunity to see your business, you’re likely to gain business.

#4 Advertising on TV? Or do you wish you could?

Catch A Critter Logo

Catch A Critter Logo – Printed and ready to be applied!

A Cox Communications/Eagle Research study shows that 48% of people viewed vehicle wraps as the most unique advertising medium available and that vehicle wraps and television ads were viewed as the two most memorable mediums.

With a television ad, you have to pay to have it filmed, edited and produced. Then you have to pay for the time slot when you want to show your commercial. This can add up to a very high price, just ask the Super Bowl advertisers.

Once you have paid for your commercial production and you have purchased your time slot, you have to hope that people are watching their TV at the moment that your one minute commercial airs. If they leave the room to refill their drink, you’ve just lost that part of your audience. You had ONE minute and now … that minute has passed.

With vehicle graphics or lettering are being seen any time your vehicle is on the road, or parked in a visible location. Your business name and identity, your website address, your phone number and what you offer can be in front of thousands of potential customers every single day.

#5 Vehicle Graphics and Social Proof

Social proof, or social influence, is a psychological phenomenon where people assume the actions of others in an attempt to reflect correct behavior for a given situation. What does this mean to your business?

Seeing your business vehicle on the road is “proof” that your company is doing business. Your vehicle graphics and lettering traveling down the road is proof that your company is a trusted operator in your field.

Your vehicle is a necessity to your business. You’re already using it to make money, why not use your vehicle to advertise, as well as transport your goods and/or services.

Vehicle Lettering and Custom Vehicle Graphics

Recently, we added a great post regarding a recent project that we did with Crystal Bloom Weddings on our blog over at the Signworld.org website.

That post shows you how you can turn your vehicle into a moving billboard with vehicle graphics or vehicle wraps by Signs PDQ.  Your vehicles are on the road, in parking lots and in traffic. You’ve got the vehicle, why not let the vehicle do a little more work for your business. Each person that sees your custom wrapped vehicle potentially gives you either, another shot at a potential client or brand exposure.

We think of using vehicle graphics a little something like this… When you have an attractive and informative graphic on your business vehicle, it’s similar to being at a huge business conference 24 hours a day and having every conference go-er that you pass constantly see: your name, contact details and your message.  Let everyone know what your company does.  Awareness is the first step in making a sale. If they don’t know what you’re selling, they can’t buy it. Make everyone that sees your vehicle aware of your products or services using vehicle graphics from Signs PDQ.

No job is too big or too small for Signs PDQ. We’d love to hear from you if you have one vehicle that needs a custom graphic or if you have a nationwide fleet of vehicles that need custom vehicle graphics or wraps.

Speaking of the possibilities of vehicle graphics for large fleets … did we mention that we are WBE and SBE certified? Check us out through the Ohio DAS. You’ll be glad you did and … we’ll be glad to bid on your sign project.
